Overview
|
View approaching Stumptown from Goat Haunt:As you descend Goat Haunt, there are numerous cuts into the trees off to the right that you can follow. Try and traverse, STAYING HIGH, for a good distance to get fresher snow. However, be on the lookout for the gorge back in there as parts of it are not places you'll enjoy. I prefer to go past the gorge into Window Pane for fresher tracks and more contiguous areas with lightly spaced trees. In the picture below, the guy on the right is headed into one of those traverses. You can see there are numerous places as you head down the trail that people are cutting into the trees: The area is about the lowest part of Goat Haunt where it makes any sense to go into Stumptown. Just beyond the bend there, it opens up into the Tree Farm area. As you can see, the slope is pretty gentle now: |
Overview of upper part of Stumptown, as seen from the top of the Anthill:This is Lodi Ridge, but the left face would be the upper part of Stumptown |
Entry from Bigfoot T-Bar:I have no pictures showing the Lodi Ridge trail just off the T-Bar. These are taken maybe 50-100 feet from the T-Bar along Lodi Ridge, then starting the descent. As can be seen, this area is quite a bit steeper than the lower area. |
Lower area in Stumptown: |
Tree wells are often an issue in Stumptown and its sister, Window Pane, in the less skied areas:I tried to show the depth of a treewell, but I should have left the mitten out of the picture. However, the pole did not penetrate the snow even CLOSE to this amount just a foot to the left. And yet, the snow seems relatively even on the top. Mark in lower left is a ski track. |
Exit area if you just stayed close to Goat Haunt, looking up, Goat Haunt center: |
Exit area if you've gone farther in. (More than likely you will come out on Whiskey Spring, one of the new trails, not shown.) You'll come out just over the Tree Farms: |
