Swift Creek Trees

(May have other local names as well)

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated:  not rated.   level
  • Type of trail:  Densely treed area on either side of Swift Creek cat track, down to Highway to Heaven.  These are tight trees and the second, lower, area, is steep.
  • Coming off Chair Two, go left.  You cannot get to the top section of this trail directly from Chair One.  Enter either via Hellroaring (right side) or Swift Creek (left side).  The top portion is densely treed, but not as steep as the lower portion, which is the area below the Swift Creek cat track, down to Highway to Heaven, the traverse out of Hellroaring Basin.
  • I don't really have pictures of this area, as I have never skied it.  Will try to get them this coming season.
  • If you continue ACROSS the Highway to Heaven traverse, you are OUTSIDE THE RESORT BOUNDARY.  You risk missing the bottom station of the Hellroaring Basin chairlift and having to be rescued.  The trees are quite dense in this area.  It is easy to get lost, and the cellphone service is limited.  Do not enter this area unless you have a buddy who is familiar with the area and you are both excellent skiers.  If you miss the chairlift, it is a LONG WAY DOWN to the public road.  You will NOT get back to the resort except by heading UP and the slope is pretty steep.

Top of Swift Creek:

The trees are shown on the left side of the picture.

Approach from the cat track on Swift Creek itself:

The area is above and below the cat track.  In this section, the upper trees are quite tight, not sure if anyone skis them.  Further along the trees are somewhat looser.

Looking down from the cat track:

Entrances off Hellroaring, coming down from Chair Two:

A bit further along:

Coming across Hellroaring from Interstate and Ed's:

The area is the trees dead ahead in the picture.  This is the top section.  I have NO pictures of the second, lower, section on the right side of the Swift Creek cat track.
