Window Pane

Please note that this area has had trails cut into it during the summer of 2013.  It's only usefulness now is to give an idea of the terrain between these new runs.

Clicking on the photos enlarges them.  Photos are taken as you come down the hill.  They have been taken over several years, so conditions shown will vary depending on what was happening the day the particular photo was taken.  Photos looking back up the hill will be described as such.

Overview

  • Rated: until it was cut up into trails.  The trails are now rated , the areas in between should still be considered .
  • Type of trail: Largely unpatrolled steep, treed areas between lightly skied runs.
  • If you are an expert skier, the Bigfoot T-Bar is open on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.  Once you exit the T-Bar, heading right (Lodi Ridge trail) along the ridge will eventually take you to the spot where the slope aspect changes.
  • Tip:  This area has tree wells and is only lightly patrolled, if at all.  SKI WITH A FRIEND WHO WILL REMAIN IN VIEW!

Upper area of Window Pane just down from the upper area after getting off the T-Bar (I have yet to figure out where this was in relation to the new Big Creek):

Lower area in Window Pane:

Traversing in:

Another trip, further in, after long traverse starting lower off Goat Haunt, so about midway down the full drop:

Another trip, slightly lower down, but still far over (probably between Big Creek and the Flower Point Lift line):

Yet another trip, still lower.  Still following a traverse in from Goat Haunt at this point:

About to start heading down:

Just above the exit point:

Exit area above the Tree Farms to the right where the trees and drop in are steeper.  You can either pole back to Goat Haunt or continue down to the second road below the deeper woods you can see  Believe this is between Big Creek and the Flower Point lift line.:

Tree wells are often an issue in Window Pane and its sister, Stumptown, in the less skied areas:

I tried to show the depth of a treewell, but I should have left the mitten out of the picture.  However, the pole did not penetrate the snow even CLOSE to this amount just a foot to the left.  And yet, the snow seems relatively even on the top.  Mark in lower left is a ski track.
